25 weeks and in the Hospital

On Monday May 24th, I was getting ready about 9 am to go to an appointment I had at my doctors office just for an update with one of the nurses. Suddenly while I was getting ready I started having these cramps that felt like period cramps. They lasted about 25 minutes straight while I was trying to get ready, then in the car for another 5 minutes, while I was driving, even though I know I shouldn’t be doing this, I texted Juan and told him about it and asked if I should just keep going to the doctors office and let them know or go to the ER. Well he insisted I go to the ER. For some

reason I wasn’t so worried because it was not that painful but I did remember the class we took last week, The nurse told us if you feel period like cramps go to the ER so good thing I learned that.

So I got to the hospital, Just parked it in valet, Juan seemed pretty worried and wanted me to get a wheel chair or sit down right away, but by this time the cramps had went away and I was totally calm. So I just walked in there, filled out the paper and waited. When they called me, they said Juan could not come in with me, So that kinda sucked, I was basically there the whole day alone.

When I first walked in, the funny thing was the nurse I saw was a girl named Karla who I had went to high school with. Nice to see a familiar face but at the same time was a little thrownoff. So I had to change into the gown and get on the tiny bed. The ones in the ER room are not as good as the beds where you stay overnight. It was super small.

So first thing she had to do was hook me up to a monitor which monitored my baby’s heartbeat and my contractions. They said I was having alot of contractions and it was so strange because I didn’t feel any of them. So then they hooked me up to an IV, she had a student try to put it in my left arm and could not get it in and that hurt, and I hate needles, so when she went to put it in my right arm instead, I pretty much passed out. I got all sweaty and hot then all cold afterward. So after that they waited a while and saw I was still having contractions even though I still wasn’t feeling them. So in order to stop the contractions, I was given this shot in the arm called progesterone, or at least I think that’s what it was called. Well Karla my nurse told me it was going to burn and it would make my heart race really bad. Sure enough it did burn and I started getting all hot and sweaty like passing out again, I had her turn the fan on me. About an hour after that bad feeling went away, the doctor came in to check if my cervix was closed. She said it was, which was a good thing.

A few hours later, they said the contractions had slowed down alot so the doctor went to check my cervix again and she said I had opened up to one centimeter, this kinda freaked me out so she said, she was going to let the rest of the second IV bag go into my arm and then check again. Well a different doctor came in to check my cervix for the third check and man it hurt so much, I don’t know what she was doing but by the time she was done, blood had started coming out and that got me worried again. She said that also worried her so she wanted to admit me to the hospital.

Now about 6pm I was officially admitted to the hospital. So now I could finally have visitors come see me.  Like every hospital visit they had to check my vital signs, blood pressure, temperature. things like that. Well my visitors came around 7 or 8. Juan came, My dad and my sister Jolee. It was good to finally see someone I knew. well I think my dad and Jolee left around 9pm. Juan stayed for alot longer.

I’m not sure about what time it was but they made me drink this gross stuff that was orange and pure sugar to check if I became diabetic. I had not eaten anything that whole entire day. So of course having all this sugar in my stomach with no food, I threw up all that sugar drink they gave me, it was so terrible. What was even worse was a few hours later I had to drink it again, but this time before I drank it, my nurse, which was a new nurse by this time, gave me a shot of something for nausea. I guess it worked because I was able to keep it down even though this time I didn’t exactly drink the whole thing. So an hour after drinking it the nurse had to draw my blood to check for diabetes.

That night around 12 or 1, I really wanted Juan to stay with me, but I saw how uncomfortable he was getting in that stupid chair so I told him to just go home. He was so sweet, he got a little teary eyed because he didn’t want to leave me alone, and I had to be the strong one even though I felt the same way. So he went home but came back at around 6 am to see me again before he went to work. I love him so much. He does everything he can for me which is so kind and wonderful.

So Tuesday night Juan came back to visit me, they gave me some ambien to sleep because I could not sleep at all. They said ambien is perfectly safe and they give it to all the pregnant

women there who cant sleep. I think it was all the sugar in me that wasn’t letting me sleep.
That whole day they kept telling me they think I would be able to go home on Wednesday, and I so happy because I was getting super bored in there and almost crazy. That night Juan went home about 10pm. I woke up the next morning around 6 or 7 because they had to check my vital signs and blood sugar again, I feel sorry for people who have diabetes because that poker thing in the finger really hurts. Then I ate a small breakfast around 730, they wouldn’t let me have much because I had high blood sugar, so I was still really hungry after just eating bacon, eggs and a half of bagel.

After eating breakfast I went back to sleep, around 915 the doctor came in and checked my cervix again, I had no more bleeding and she said I could go home. So I called my dad to come pick me up. I was ready and outta there by 1030. Now I’m just home relaxing and on strict bed rest for the rest of my pregnancy. I am glad everything is ok now, I just pray my baby stays growing inside me and healthy for the next three months.
