Dealing with a sick baby on no sleep…

My daughter Madison has been sick since I got home from work Friday afternoon, not a fun way to start off the weekend and considering it was the 4th of July. Friday night and bed time came around, well bedtime for her wasn’t going to happen. She wasn’t able to find a position that was comfortable for her so she was on and off of the bed, laying in various places on the carpet and just couldn’t seem to find a good spot to sleep.

I think it was about 1:30am by the time I couldn’t keep my eyes open, I snoozed off waking up around 3:00am to her screaming not a good feeling. Daddy got the thermometer to check her temp again and sure enough, it was even higher. We tried everything from cooling her down to trying to take her mind off it with Mickey Mouse Club House, to giving her Oreo’s at 3:00am. Nothing worked and of course the only medicine we had was Tylenol and with the recall out telling everyone to toss out all bottle’s, we didn’t want to use it.

She finally fell asleep, tossed and turned but able to sleep. Finally morning came around, she woke up about 6:00am feeling so crummy and worse than ever. I ran to the pharmacy where the pharmacist gave me a generic brand for Tylenol and wow, the taste was worse than adult’s Nyquil and I know everyone hates Nyquil. The pharmacist told me to mix it with her drink. We spent most of the day in doors Saturday morning, afternoon and night.

So here came Saturday night, not good, I ended up calling Choc Hospital to talk with a nurse and that was just wonderful. She woke up about 6 times through out the night Saturday night and morning but all I could really do was comfort her, its really hard when your lil one is screaming to the point she has to try and catch her breath.

Finally she got to bed around 5:00am but waking at about 8:00am. I gave her a luke warm bath, adding bubbles and color tablets to make her a little happy but it didn’t really work, she just sat their quiet and not her usual self. On a brighter note, by the afternoon her fever finally broke but she was in a bad mood due to lack of sleep as well as myself. Currently it is 11:30pm on Sunday night and she has still not fallen asleep. I have no clue what to do, sometimes I am just beyond the point of exhaustion and feel I am just running on nothing. Please just let us have one good night’s sleep. Happy 4th of July to everyone, hope it was a safe one for you.
