16 and Pregnant
I’ve watched all the episodes of “16 and Pregnant,” which is on MTV. Each episode focuses on a unique girl dealing with teen pregnancy. In season one it had 4 amazingly smart teen moms all dealing with an unexpected pregnancy while still in High School and only 16.
First you meet Maci a pretty, sweet sixteen-year-old girl with a boyfriend who is five years older than she is. Prior to her pregnancy she was a cheerleader and loved dirtbikes. That all changed when she found out she was pregnant. Suddenly, she was engaged and switching to an alternative school in order to graduate high school early. Well things didn’t go as planned, she soon had her son Bentley who is beyond adorable, and her and her long time loser boyfriend Ryan called everything quits (Thank GOD!). Maci never came off as being a immature typical 16 year old, she started the show off as the most mature girl on the show from my view. She would try everything to make things work with her and Ryan which seemed like more for Bentley’s sake then for her. She was real focused on just getting High School done and moving forward, she was very smart for taking her parents help but also for finally leaving her loser boyfriend which one day when he looks back on all this he’ll see how incredible stupid he was!!
Then you had Amber typical party girl, however getting pregnant at 16 changes that whole scene. She had to put her 16 year old life on Permanente pause and jump into the fast lane of becoming a young teen mom. Amber took on the roll but in my view came off as a bit lazy and a bit of a control freak! As the show progressed and we got to see Amber as a mother you do have to give her credit for at least putting some effort into taking on the roll of a young mom, however I never really felt Amber put the time and effort into being a mom whenever we would see her Leah was always just crawling around and well Amber was a couch potato in ever scene just yelling at Gary. You would think for being a teen mom you would take all the right precautions to prevent another unplanned pregnancy but not for Amber she thought she was pregnant yet again thank god she wasn’t I really don’t know what that girl would do!
When I first saw Catelynn & Tyler who were viewed as the youngest adorable loving couple it probably wouldn’t cross your mind that they were thinking or planning for adoption. Catelynn coming from a crazy upbringing of her short time as a teen knew it in her heart that adoption was just the best thing for their unborn baby. As young as they were they were the smartest and happiest couples on the whole season 1. The weirdest thing for me was that Catelynn’s mom was married to Tyler’s dad which they also had a baby together??!! My first thought on that was wow this is going to be a redneck teen mom no wonder she got pregnant by her half brother well that wasn’t the case at all far from it to be honest. Catelynn & Tyler were just a young teen couple who unfortunately had an unstable upcoming of life but never seemed to come off as uncontrolled or poorly raised teen’s. They were smart and brave for telling the whole world they wanted their baby to be adoptive to a family who can give the baby the best life possible. Catelynn & Tyler knew they could have the baby but also took a good long look at their life and decided adoption was the best choice.
Finally we get to Farrah the crazy, out of control, disrespectful, wild child pregnant at 16 years old. All the titles I gave her above were my own personal view of her. However watching her on the most recent episodes of 16 & pregnant as well as reading a lot of stories and watching personal videos of her I’ve learned that anyone who has had to go through what she has gone through should have the right to hold her own. Farrah is a young beautiful talented teen mom with an amazing daughter Sophia. Farrah has done her pregnancy and mother hood on her own. She has always come off as being so bitchy and rude to anyone and everyone but to know her for her own words you start to have a change of heart I know I did. Sophia’s dad’s Derek who was Farrahs on and off again boyfriend passed away just two months before the birth of Sophia. Derek’s mom gave an interview not too long ago and said he would have loved being in Sophia’s life and the whole family would just love to be in her life. I think for Farrah to hear all these inviterview’s and stories she’s always going to have a negative outlook on life because she can never get that part of her life back but even through all this she has been a great mom. People also have to remember that TV will always try to make that person look bad in any way to get their ratings but you also got to keep in mind Farrah’s been doing this show since she was pregnant Sophia is over a year old she has always been use to someone always being around (Camera Man) the show made her look like she left Sophia in the sink and in the hallway as she moved in but someone was always right there with lil Sophia.

All four teen moms are unique. Some are matured and responsible enough for their babies and some are not ready to be moms. There are lessons we can get from them.
